We thought we'd take a quick opportunity to provide a little background on Prometheus Solar and how we had the crazy idea to start producing “plug and play” style solar kits. Our founder, Jim Corning, started experimenting with solar back in 2006 and after working in the oil and gas industry for many years, he was very excited about how simple it was to make his own power right in his backyard. Solar has come a long way since 2006, so it's our goal to make solar more accessible to everyone.
How did we get started?
Our first official installation as a company came in early 2008 when Jim donated a 1.3 kW grid-tied solar system for Willow Bend Environmental Education Center here in Flagstaff. Since then, we've installed hundreds of systems of all shapes and sizes. While we're not the largest solar installer out there, we do pride ourselves in the fact that we've installed a huge range of complex systems often in very remote areas and challenging conditions. We thrive on these demanding projects, which is why we wanted to take on the challenge of producing kits that were high quality, yet accessible to everyone.
So why do we believe in solar?
We have not inherited the earth from our fathers, we are borrowing it from our children.
~Native American Saying
We feel that we're not placing enough value on the world's precious natural resources. While there may currently be an abundance of fossil fuels out there, does that mean it's smart for us to extract and burn them as quickly as possible? Oil, natural gas, and coal are extremely energy dense and have a staggering amount of uses, we need to start placing real value on them and saving them for future generations. Now that we have proven and reliable alternatives like solar to power our lives, let's save our fossil fuels for more valuable pursuits.
Why Plug and Play Solar Kits?
We believe everyone should have solar. It just makes sense. The fuel is FREE...by the way. We understand it's a bit more complicated than this so that is why we wanted to start offering high quality systems that take all the guesswork out of using solar. We think you'll find that solar really can be affordable and worthwhile. Sure, you'll find some cheaper units out there, but as they say, you get what you pay for.
